IN a booking filled game, Tom Leggett and Adam Liddle helped Farnham Town move within two points of second place Gloucester City, with two games in hand.Simultaneously, Sholing’s play-off chances were badly hurt.
Sholing had an early call for a penalty when Tommy-Lee Higgs collided with 5, coming after Michael Folivi had put him through after dispossessing 8. As it was not given, Higgs was quick to audibly voice his frustration.
Joe Rabbets was causing havoc on Michael Eacott’s right wing, providing several deliveries that had created the best chance for an opener to that point.
The attacking threat changed ends, and this time was completed, Leggett’s long range effort going beyond both outstretched hands of Jack Turner, to the left of the Sholing keeper.
Then came Vinnie Tume, who once again displayed his uncanny ability to ride several challenges at once, when entering the box. However, as happens so cruelly often, he wasn’t rewarded.
Boatmen skipper, Byron Mason, charged his way up from centre back, not afraid to show his strength in the process. He gave it to Tume, who passed on to Folivi who went millimetres wide of Eacott’s right post, as half-time was signalled.
As the second period began, Sholing were looking to move the ball at every opportunity, trying to find or force a hole to exploit. Higgs took a shot from outside the box but hit the top of the stand behind the goal.
For the next few moments, Seb Bowerman didn’t like the sight of Sam Magri. Firstly, Magri muscled back the ball near the Sholing box, and he was swinging a leg to knock Bowerman’s eventual attempt off target.
Just before the 80th minute, Bowerman’s teammate, Liddle, found himself onside, one-on-one with Turner, and slotted home.
Turner and several of those in red weren’t happy about something in the aftermath and protested, earning the stopper a booking. The goal stood, securing the points.
Bradley Targett converted into an open net to find an extra time consolation, it was too little too late for the Boatmen.They will host Wimborne on the 18th of April, as they try to start to overturn a four point deficit to Berkhamsted to sneak back into the play-off places.
