Sholing survived Andover New Street’s bright start before Vinnie Tume and Olly Pendlebury’s goals secured FA Cup progress.
The immediate aftermath of kick-off saw Andover New Street, looking for the upset, on top. They looked particularly dangerous down the left wing, helped by Claudio Herbert’s running at the defence.
Down the other side, Sholing went very close. Inside the box, Jahiem Dotse provided Tommy Lee Higgs with a clear line of sight to Luke Cairney’s right corner, but Higgs couldn’t make the ideal connection, and nobody in Sholing colours got there in time to follow up.
Just past the half-hour mark, it was the same area that produced the first goal of the game. From the right of the penalty box, the ball was played across the face of goal before eventually being rifled into the top corner by Tume, giving Sholing the only goal of the half.
Not long after 50 minutes, Greg Peel survived a challenge on the edge of the area to create a one-on-one opportunity against Jack Turner, but the ball got away from him and into the Sholing keeper’s hands.
Sholing doubled their lead in the 80th minute thanks to a Pendlebury free-kick from the very edge of the box. Cairney couldn’t get his left arm out in time to try to stop it, and the ball flew into the top corner to secure the Boatmen’s place in the next round.
